Remember The First Home You Called Your Own?

Do you remember the first house/condo/apartment you moved into?  How excited were you?
I am moving into my first condo and as the days go by, I find myself getting more excited by the day.  I haven't moved in yet but already I am buying things with which to furnish my new place.  Now, as I buy more and more items, I am finding it funny that I would buy something now, just to move it to my current place, knowing that in a few weeks I'm going to be moving it again to my new place.  Does this stop me though?  Of course not!  Already I have purchased a new TV, a dining set with four chairs, the list goes on.  These are not small items, and I know I'll be moving them twice.  At the same time, I am happy to move everything twice because as I buy new things, I can see in my mind how my new place is going to look.

Some might call this needless and pointless work, I call it building my dream condo in advance!  I know at the beginning I won't have everything that my place will need, I mean, I can't buy everything all at once.  The first few months will consist of mis-matched furniture, an out of date TV stand, the same 4 pieces of cutlery over and over and milk glasses for wine.  But as the months go on, small things will be purchased and will start to take the place of what I have now.

By far, my favorite purchase for my new place is the TV I bought last week.  Think back to when you made this first step.  What was that one item you were the most excited about placing in your new home?  Maybe your comments will give me ideas for what I need to successfully furnish my new home.  I'm definitely going to need a coffee maker!

I distinctly remember my first shopping trip for my new house, even though it was almost five years ago!

Here's what I bought:

- TV stand

- broom (I all hardwood upstairs)

- mat for entry (it's either raining or snowing in Saskatoon!)

- paper towel (great for when doing last minute cleaning before placement of furniture)

- hand towels (buying new ones to match the new place really makes it feel like home)

Most of all, have fun while getting everything ready.  It's a great experience.  I'm so excited for you! :)

After living abroad - and having sold all my possessions prior to leaving - I kind of got to experience similar excitement as we started collecting new things to furnish our apartment.

My favorite thing so far ... our couch and loveseat we bought from Palliser EQ3.  Sooooo comfy!

It's been two months and I still don't have a table and chairs set. Can't find a set I absolutely love yet.

Looking forward to the house-warming Ryan. ;-)
